The “English Language Cell” was started by the Department of English in 1973 to offer remedial courses in English for postgraduate students from non-English medium backgrounds. From 1979 to 1994, the Cell also conducted eight-week intensive English language courses for agricultural scientists and workers deputed by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Hyderabad. In 1988, the UGC sanctioned the “English Language Teaching Centre” and the activities of the Language Cell were taken over by the ELTC.
Since 1988, ELTC, the UGC-sanctioned University Centre, has been offering a range of courses to help Indian and foreign students, teachers, employees, and professionals to acquire proficiency in English which has become necessary for academic and professional advancement.
